"The bottom line I want everyone to know is that Eric Raya, at no point in time, was responsible for the deaths of the three victims," stated downtown Joliet criminal lawyer Jeff Tomczak of The Tomczak Group.
Joliet, IL – For two years and two months, Joliet resident Eric Raya has been held in Will County Jail, facing multiple counts of first-degree murder. Joliet Police arrested Raya and two others in connection with the June 3, 2017, early morning arson on North Center Street, which claimed the lives of two women and an 11-month-old baby. On Wednesday, Judge Daniel Kennedy was informed that the Will County State's Attorney's Office, led by James Glasgow, was dropping all of Raya's first-degree murder charges.
Now 20 years old, Raya pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of obstruction of justice, as well as an unrelated aggravated battery charge. Hours after the fatal fire, Raya was involved in a fight with someone in the parking lot of a New Lenox Walmart.
